Your Dress Codes at SJL

Boys 

  • Slack/pants must be properly fitting at your natural waistline. Grades 3 through 8 must wear navy blue traditional dress type with belt loops and a solid color dark belt. Students in grades K through 2 may wear navy blue traditional dress type elastic waist pants. If the pants have belt loops, belts are required. Absolutely no corduroys, jeans, drawstring, or cargo pants are permitted.
  • Shirts must be long or short sleeve white, navy blue, pastel blue, or pastel yellow dress or knit material with a collar. Shirts must be tucked in neatly at all times so as to see the belt or waistband. Absolutely no logos, or monograms are permitted.
  • Socks must be worn with shoes.
  • No jewelry except religious medals and religious bracelets. No facial or ear piercings on boys permitted. If unacceptable jewelry is worn, the child will be asked to remove it and put it away in their book bag or locker.

Boys & Girls

  • Solid navy sweaters or the St. James logo solid gray sweaters purchased through Educational Apparel may be worn over the school uniform shirt.  Sweaters can be classic cardigan, or sleeveless vests.  Sweaters must be properly fitted, and free from rips or tears.
  • Fleece jackets must be purchased through Educational Apparel and display the St. James logo.  A uniform shirt must be worn under the fleece.  Fleece must be properly fitted, and be free from rips or tears.
  • Sweatshirts must be purchased through Educational Apparel and display the St. James logo.  Sweatshirts may be hooded or non- hooded and may be navy, royal blue, or gray.  A uniform shirt must be worn under the sweatshirt.  Sweatshirts must be properly fitted, and be free from rips or tears.
  • Belts must be a solid color and worn with pants with belt loops. No oversized belt buckles.
  • Watches may be worn if desired.
  • No open toe or open back shoes are permitted.
  • Boots of any kind are NOT permitted to be worn during the school day.  Snow boots may be worn to and from school, but must be changed into appropriate shoes during the school day.
  • Turtlenecks may be worn under uniform shirts ONLY. They must be white, pastel blue or pastel yellow.
  • Only solid white T-shirts may be worn under uniform shirt.

Girls

  • Jumper must be in St. James plaid. No solid navy jumpers. No skirts permitted. Jumper length must be mid-thigh.
  • Shirts must be long or short sleeve white, navy blue, pastel blue, pastel yellow dress or knit material with a collar. Shirts must be tucked in neatly at all times so as to see the belt or waistband. No logos, ruffles, lace are permitted.
  • Slacks/pants must be properly fitting at natural waistline, navy blue traditional dress type with belt loops and a solid color dark belt for grades 3 through 8.  Students in grades K through 2 may wear navy blue traditional dress type elastic waist pants. If pants have belt loops, belts are required.  No corduroys, jeans, drawstring or cargo pants, are permitted.
  • Socks and/or footed tights must be worn with shoes.  Leggings without foot coverage are not permitted.
  • No facial piercings except ears.  Pierced earrings, if worn, should be small post or small hoop, no larger than a nickel.  Two earrings per ear maximum.
  • No other jewelry except religious medals and religious bracelets is allowed. If unacceptable jewelry is worn, child will be asked to remove and put it away in bookbag or locker.
  • No eye or lip make-up may be worn 7:15 AM – 2:30 PM. Excessive make up is not appropriate the principal will make this determination.
  • September 30 through March 31 solid royal, navy blue or gray sweatpants may be worn under the jumper to and from school, but must be taken off when student enters the building.  They will be permitted for outdoor recess.

Optional Warm Weather Uniform

  • Properly fitted navy blue dress shorts or Capri’s with belt loops and a solid belt for grades 3 through 8 and grades K through 2 may wear dress type elastic waist shorts in navy blue.   If pants have belt loops, belts must be worn.  These may be worn from April 1 through October 31. Shorts must be no shorter than mid-thigh.  No drawstrings or cargo pockets.
  • Uniform shirts as described above.
  • No pants are to be worn under uniforms during this time.

Physical Education Code

  • Students in grades K-3 do not wear a P.E. uniform, however, they must wear tennis shoes on days they have P.E. class.
  • The P.E. uniform is REQUIRED for all students in grades 4 – 8.
  • P.E. shirts must be purchased through Educational Apparel.
  • St. James theme or service learning shirts may also be worn.
  • P.E. shorts or sweatpants must be basic royal blue, navy blue or gray, and can be purchased at your local store.
  • Tennis shoes.
